SON develops training courses to build training capacity

In its determination to improve the training and certification capacity in Training Centre, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has developed training courses towards building the capacity of Nigerians for the implementation of the requirements of the Energy Management Standards ISO 50001:2018.

The Director-General SON, Mallam Farouk Salim made this known while declaring open an in-house training and certification program for SON Auditors at its Operational Headquarters in Lagos and the Abuja Corporate headquarters recently.

He said in designing the training and certification modules, a lot of information was derived from previous courses attended by staff in Energy Management and other international benchmark programs.

Represented by the Director Training Services Engr. Abner Timothy, the SON boss further explained that Course validation is a requirement that are  necessary in service design and development, which is in line with international standards requirements.

The DG stated that the first of the two programs was first flagged off at the SON Training Service Centre Lagos to fine-tune and ascertain lapses, if any, followed by a final validation course rendered at the SON Corporate Headquarters for some SON Engineers in Abuja recently.

Salim consequently, charged SON staff to see this as the beginning of the training of SON Engineers and the completion of the validation necessary, in preparation for training and certification programmes before it will be open to the public.

He enjoined participants to take seriously the training received to qualify as Systems Auditors, which puts SON in good stead to train and certify organisations that may wish to implement and achieve certification to the International Standards.

“The Energy Management Systems certification course if implemented by institutions and companies will not only drive the capacity of Nigerians to implement the requirements, it will also enable qualification to get certification which will contribute in no little way to improve energy performance, and savings in the country,” he said.
