TinCan Customs Boosts Government Revenue By N112.6b in First Quarter Of 2021

The TinCan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has boosted the federal government revenue with over N112.6 billion naira in the first quarter of the year 2021, 

This was revealed in a press statement signed by the Area Controller of the Command, Compt. MBA Musa which shows an increase of about N21.05Billion or 23 percent more than the revenue figure generated in the same period last year which was N91billion.

Compt. Musa explained that the improvement was achieved through the use of technology and collaboration employed by the command even in the face of the twin threat to lives and livelihood posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic, adding that the Command has inspired officers to continue to work hard while observing all the safety measures to achieve the best of performance; “ We kept our lines of communication open and concerted effort was made to ensure that the supply chain is not disrupted” He said.

In the area of anti smuggling in the command, the activities yielded result a spectacular result with the seizure 43.110kg of cocaine concealed in raw bulk sugar.

He disclosed that 20 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure and detaining of the vessel MV SPAR SCORPIO which he said the Command has handed over the suspect with the case file to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.

On trade facilitation, the CAC added that the Command has put measures in place with a view to ensure that legitimate trades are given expeditious attention and he also disclosed that the Dispute 

Resolution Committee in the command have been rejigged with a mandate to attend to all trade related disputes expeditiously 

The Controller went further to reveal that the Command has reinvigorated the use of intermodal transport system in terms of barges for cargo movement in line with global best practices.
