The Apapac Half year Report: Apapa Customs Command Generates N336b Into Federation Account the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a total sum of N336b (Three Hundred and thirty six billion) naira as revenue within the first half of the year 2021
This revenue shows a great improvement of over 61 percent above the sum of N227B generated within the same period of 2020.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Compt. Yusuf Malanta, made this known yesterday while addressing news men at the command conference hall.
According to the CAC, this laudable feat is attributable to improved trade facilitation and the creation of a one stop shop at the command which made trade in the command more seamless; He also revealed that compliant traders also enjoy fast track that will quicken the exit of cargoes thereby saving time and costs.
Within the period under review, the command also made can unprecedented record in the area of anti smuggling, in line with the provisions of the extant laws, trade guidelines and enforcement of government fiscal policy, the command was able to strengthen it’s anti smuggling operations against economic saboteurs through timely, credible intelligence driven network which led to the seizure of 46 containers between January to June 2021 with duty paid value of N27.6 billion. All these importations according to Compt. Yusuf are contrary to the provision of sections 46 & 47 of Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C45 LFN 2004 and Customs & Excise Notices No.1491.
In the area of Export trade, the command revealed that goods worth N272.3 billion were exported through Apapa port between January and June 20 21. These exports include Agricultural goods such as sesame seed, ginger, hibiscus flower and other mineral resources. The total tonnage of the said export stood at 1.6 million tones with FOB value of $103 billion.
On this achievement, the CAC commended the efforts of officers and men of the command and other stakeholders saying "this spectacular achievement was made possible by our officers resilience and commitment in ensuring that collections of appropriate revenue, robust stakeholders engagement and seamless facilitation of compliant trade
While appreciating all stakeholders of the command for their support, the commands' boss called on all importers, exporters, Customs brokers and freight forwarders to imbibe the culture of compliance as part of their standard operating procedure in order to reduce the time and cost of doing business.
